OH YES, 9/11HORDES OF PEOPLE WERE ANGRY…LITERALLY THOUSANDS…TAKING TO THE ONION’S FACEBOOK WALL, DEMANDING THAT THE VIDEO BE TAKEN DOWN….SAYING THINGS LIKE, “THERE WILL NEVER BE A DAY WHERE IT’S FUNNY TO LAUGH AT THE DEATHS OF 3,000 PEOPLE” AND “IT WILL ALWAYS BE TOO SOON.”THAT BEING SAID…THE ONLY FUNNY THING ABOUT THIS IS HOW THEY RESPONDED. THE ONION’S MARKETING DIRECTOR SENT AN EMAIL TO THE ASSOCIATED PRESS SAYING THIS WAS A VERY IMPORTANT STORY, AND THAT THEY’RE SURPRISED OTHER MAJOR NEWS SOURCES ARE NOT GIVING IT THE COVERAGE IT DESERVES.” NOW 2 WEEKS AFTER SEPTEMBER 11, THE ONION CAME OUT WITH AN ISSUE THAT WAS CRITICALLY ACLAIMED FOR BEING BOTH FUNNY AND CARTHARTIC….WITH HEADLINES LIKE, “US VOWS TO DEFEAT WHOEVER IT IS WE’RE AT WAR WITH” AND “HJACKERS SURPRISED TO FIND SELVES IN HELL,” REPORTED FROM JAHANNEM, OUTER DARKNESS. SO WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS AND THAT? TELL ME (YOUR THOUGHTS.)IN THE COMMENTS. They included a picture of a photoshopped picture of a “Sears” plane about to collide into the Willis Tower on one of their videos, and thousands responded angrily, saying the joke was in extremely poor taste.
